HSC
Launches Road to Triumph Campaign
By Dino Sophocleous, Director of Development
The
Huntington Society of Canada is the only national organization in
Canada dedicated to offering hope for the future by funding research
into Huntington disease (HD), and providing support to those living
with HD today. We are excited to announce the launch of an ambitious
to announce the launch of an ambitious $17 million fundraising campaign.
The
Road to Triumph (RTT) Campaign will ensure that the Society can
play a critical role in the fight against HD. It will ensure that
we can expand both our services for families and research into a
treatment or a cure for this terrible disease. It will ensure that
we can achieve our vision of the future: a world free from Huntington's.
"This
campaign has been planned for while and is the most important endeavour
of the Society in many years," says Isla Horvath, Executive
Director and CEO. "We are confident that we have both the expertise
and the dedicated volunteers needed for such a project."
Indeed,
volunteers will be a key factor in this campaign, both at the chapter
level and the major gifts division. "Everyone has a role to
play in this project," says Vern Barrett, Chair of the Board
and Co-Chair of the RTT Committee. "Unlike other major fundraising
efforts, this campaign will depend on every volunteer of the Society
making an extra effort to bring in additional funds in the next
couple of years, and I am confident that our people will not let
us down."
Vern
is right on both counts. HSC volunteers are among the most dedicated
in the country, and both dedicated in the country, and both the
Annual Fund ($10 million) and the Major Gifts ($7 million) divisions
of the campaign will depend heavily on their hard work to reach
the $17 million goal.
The
campaign will be directed by the Board's Road to Triumph Committee
and the Campaign Cabinet, a team of corporate leaders, which is
currently being recruited. You can expect to see and hear from these
volunteers and the Development department as the campaign gains
momentum and we look for donors across the country.
To
get the campaign off to a roaring start, we are seeking support
from individuals, corporations and foundations with the capacity
and vision to make a major gift to the campaign. Individuals and
organizations who want to be part of the team can help make a treatment
or cure for HD a reality.
We
all have a role to play. Think about people you know in your community
who could either make a gift to the campaign or play a role in helping
us open doors to potential donors. Please contact the Development
department and let us know if you have someone in know if you have
someone in mind. We will work with you to find the best way of approaching
each prospect for support.
Elaine
Taylor, co-chair of the RTT committee, says the campaign will only
succeed with strong support from our families. "We are not
just stakeholders in the Society," she says. "We're shareholders.
The time has come to re-invest in our cause so that in the future,
our community may not have to deal with Huntington's." A worthy
cause indeed!
