Huntington
Society of Canada On-line Privacy Policy
This
notice explains our on-line information practices. By visiting
the Huntington Society of Canada at www.hsc-ca.org,
you are accepting the practices described in this policy.
Defining
Personal Information
Personal
information is any information that can be used to distinguish,
identify or contact a specific individual. This information
can include an individual's opinions or beliefs, as well as
facts about, or related to, the individual. Exceptions: business
contact information and certain publicly available information,
such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published
in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.
Where
an individual uses his or her home contact information as business
contact information as well, the Society considers that the
contact information provided is business contact information,
and is not therefore subject to protection as personal information.
Privacy
Practices
Personal
information gathered by the Huntington Society of Canada is
kept in confidence. Society staff are authorized to access personal
information based only on their need to deal with the information
for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are
in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or
shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose
for which it is gathered. The Society also takes measures to
ensure the integrity of this information is maintained and to
prevent its being lost or destroyed.
The
Society collects, uses and discloses personal information only
for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate
in light of given circumstances.
Information
Gathered from the Web site
Two
types of information are collected:
-
Personal, or 'individually identifiable', information you
provide to us; and
-
Standard
Web server/visitor traffic information, commonly referred
to as "aggregate information," regarding overall
Web site traffic patterns. We do not report on individual
user sessions. Web servers normally collect this type of basic
information as part of their web log processes.
Individually
Identifiable Information
Currently,
the only instance when the Society requests individually identifiable
information from its users is for the purposes of facilitating
an on-line donation. In this instance:
a)
We receive an email from a secure server with the information
entered by the on-line donor. We then process the donation manually.
b) We do not use cookies.
c) In the case of memorial contributions and honour contributions,
a personalized gift card is sent to a designated recipient,
usually the family member of the deceased or the honoree. Therefore,
we will request the name, address, city, prov., postal code
and telephone number for your designated gift card recipient.
This information is only used for the purpose of sending the
gift card.
In
accordance with Revenue Canada regulations, we maintain records
of all contributions to the Huntington Society of Canada. Personal
information is private and confidential. Additionally, all information
is stored in a secure location accessible only by authorized
staff.
Aggregate
Information
In
addition to information provided by our visitors, we use the
normal internet tracking tools associated with standard internet
protocols and web-based systems. This system information is
typically stored in log files and the information is used for
aggregate reporting. Aggregate reporting includes total number
of visitors, most visited sections, peak traffic times, etc.
Log files are simply transaction records web servers maintain.
Those logs are used for recording information, such as:
-
service
provider IP addresses
-
browser
versions
-
referring
Web sites
-
search
terms used
-
average
number of pages requested
-
average
duration of visit
-
total
visitor traffic.
We
use aggregate information gathered from your visit to better
design our Web site. This information supplies us with a broad
picture of how people use our Web site in order to help us better
serve our audience.
Application
of this Policy
This
Privacy Policy applies only to the Huntington Society of Canada
Web site. Please be aware that the Society is not responsible
for the privacy practices of other Web sites to which it has
links. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of each
and every Web site that requests personal information from you.
The
Huntington Society of Canada reserves the right to change this
policy at any time.
