The Huntington Society of Canada's Dedication to Privacy

The Huntington Society of Canada is committed to protecting the privacy of all of our members and stakeholders. We recognize the importance of privacy and are dedicated to maintaining the trust of our members.

By virtue of its mission, the Society often has access to a range of personal information about its members. We regard the access to this information as a trust and will take all the necessary steps to protect that trust. The Huntington Society of Canada adheres to the legal requirements of Canada's new Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) with respect to its information management and privacy practices.

What defines Personal Information?
Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include an individual's opinions or beliefs, as well as facts about, or related to, the individual. There are exceptions and they include business contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses, and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories. This information is not considered personal information.

Any personal information we obtain is kept privately and is only disclosed when the individual involved has expressed interest in his/her information being shared. You may already have noticed some changes in our practices when dealing with either the Kitchener office or our Services team. It is important to note that these are in fact very minor changes, as we have always strived to maintain excellence when dealing with privacy issues.

Our privacy policy is regularly reviewed to ensure that we are complying with the expectations of PIPEDA. You are welcome to order a copy by calling the Kitchener office at 1-800-998-7398.

Editor's Note: The Society has a Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) who is accountable for the Society's compliance. The CPO position is shared between the Executive Director/CEO, Isla Horvath, and the Director of Individual and Family Services, Rose Silvestro. If you would like to discuss our privacy procedures and protocols, please contact Isla or Rose.
