NAVIGATOR Goals

Through a series of closely related programme initiatives, NAVIGATOR seeks to develop and explore innovative approaches to understanding and treating Huntington disease, and to improve the lives of individuals with HD.

When fully implemented, NAVIGATOR will include such features as flexible seed funding for promising new directions in HD science; support for collaborative approaches to scientific research and advanced medical technology; investment in the infrastructure for clinical investigation and enhanced medical care; and cultivation of the finest young investigators.

Together, these funding initiatives will:

  • meet the most urgent needs in HD research today;
  • produce the greatest possible value for every research dollar;
  • invest only in the most outstanding people and projects;
  • leverage benefits from existing collaborations and networks;
  • cover the full continuum of research, from bench to bedside.
  • Weve reached the point in HD research that there is now, for the first time, a very real possibility that we can discover some sort of effective treatment - and hopefully a cure - over the course of the next decade. For 25 years, the Huntington Society of Canada has been a world leader in addressing the special needs of people with HD, and its not surprising that theyve put together a programme like NAVIGATOR, which will certainly help us to find a cure sooner rather than later.
