Some of Our Past Achievements
Predictive Testing for Huntington Disease
In 1986, the Huntington Society committed $60,000 to Dr. Michael Haydens pilot study of predictive testing for HD, an investment which sparked the development of the multi-million dollar Canadian Collaborative Study on Predictive Testing.
Critical Resources for HD Research
The Huntington Society provided extensive support for the Canadian Brain Tissue Bank in Toronto and the Canadian HD DNA Bank in Vancouver, which provided essential research resources to advance our scientific understanding of Huntington disease.
Identification of the Huntington Disease Gene
In 1993, the Huntington Society contributed funds to Dr. Jim Gusellas research team at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston -- the team that identified the HD gene, and paved the way for the scientific breakthroughs that followed.
Groundbreaking Clinical Research
In 1995, the Huntington Society made a multi-year seed funding commitment totalling $175,000 to the Huntington Study Group, an international consortium pursuing collaborative clinical research on HD, including multi-centre drug trials.
