ETA Grants

Goal. The HSC Travel Grants initiative is designed to promote, through travel grants, Canadian participation in international conferences, workshops, and symposia; the exchange of ideas and expertise relevant to Huntington disease research; and the development of new collaborative ventures within Canada and internationally.

Amount. HSC Travel grants are awarded following review of the applicant's budget, in amounts up to $1,000.

Eligibility. The following parties are eligible to apply for a maximum of one HSC Travel Grant per year:

  • individuals currently holding an HSC Landmark Training Grant;
  • individuals currently pursuing doctoral or post-doctoral studies who are nominated by a member of the Research Council, by the holder of an HSC Navigator Award, or, at the discretion of the Research Council, by a senior Canadian investigator;
  • neurologists/psychiatrists currently following HD patients, who are interested in pursuing the creation of an HD clinic and/or participating in clinical initiatives identified as priorities by the Huntington Society of Canada.
  • Other applications will be considered on a discretionary basis:

Preference will be given to applicants currently holding Landmark Training Awards who will be playing an active role for example, presenting an abstract or poster at a conference or meeting.

Deadline. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Grants are made on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of funds, and applicants may wish to consult the Huntington Society prior to submitting an application.

Application guidelines. Application is by way of a letter which must be submitted in advance of the conference or meeting in question. The following information must be included:

  • the name, date, location, and organizing body of the meeting;
  • the applicant's role in the meeting;
  • budget, including registration fees, travel, accommodation;
  • for graduate and post-doctoral applicants, a letter of support from the supervisor.

Evaluation. HSC Travel Grants will be awarded on a discretionary basis, subject to the availability of funds, following consultation between the Chair of the Research Council and the Executive Director.

(a) Payment of grants. Grants are awarded in a single payment following review of the application.

(b) Expenditure/return of funds. Receipts must be submitted immediately following the meeting for which the award was made, and any unexpended funds must be returned promptly to the Huntington Society of Canada.

(c) Following the meeting, individuals receiving an HSC Travel Grant are required to submit a one-page report, in lay language, providing highlights of the conference or meeting they attended, and summarizing their own role in the meeting.
