| Memories of the May 2003 Squamish Huntington�s Camp By John Penner ... continued from Page 1. The setting of the camp was in a bit of paradise. It was nestled along the fast, green, and chilly ice melt Squamish River. Across the grounds we could see the majestic rock face of the mountains, their tops still covered in snow. One night the snow on the hill crept a wee bit close but for most of the week the weather was great. All around were acres of luscious green grass. This was the most beautiful part of God�s creation. There were a total of fifteen campers and about ten staff. Four of the campers were virgins; they will keep their virginity until the next camp they attend. John can hardly wait to lose it. The only way to lose your virginity is to attend another camp, so he can hardly wait for 2004. So what was a virgin? That was what they called first time campers. Next year they are called veterans. There were a lot of things to do, like working on the trampoline with Dean, who showed us all kinds of moves we had never seen before. When one of the gals bounced too long and almost out of her her sweatsuit, we almost saw France. But that would not have been appropriate, as there were some younger staff. On the day trip to Alice Lake the sun came out and chased the clouds away. Walking around Alice Lake they tried to identify some trees; John and Kelly knew most. John is till trying to find the name of the one tree they had in the Terrace area, so don�t rub it in�he was beat out by a gal. Then it was a picnic lunch at the lake. After lunch they had our picture taken by a local, and for the real energetic ones they went around twice. John, not wanting to be shown up, tried for a second run too but had to sleep most the afternoon away to reco-operate. Walking along the fast-running Squamish River� this was right at Brackendale which is the world famous site for spotting bald eagles. As the campers could only walk when there was a staff person with them, it was something special.
